As members of the WRA (Waste Recycling Association) We are always looking forward and drive to produce sustainable business practices into our company. We have a number of different companies and transfer stations that come to us with the disposal of contaminated and clean wood and combined, we gather a minimum of 600 tonnes of woodchip a week, That is a large surface amount of timber that potentially could have found its way into landfill. Fortunately we have another method of disposing it. Tilmanstone has an industrial sized wood shredder that shreds the material so more surface area of the wood can be transported. The High Speed Shredder will go through about 120TE cutting the bulk down by half which means fewer Lorries will need to transport the material which will in effect reduce the amount of vehicles on the road cutting down exhaust emissions. Roughly 20,000 tonnes of wood waste a year is diverted from landfill due to this method of chipping which results in 750 less vehicles on the road. The Contaminated wood that is recycled is transported within the U.K. using 80m3 bulkers which can usually hold up to 20te of woodchip. We send the clean woodchip to 3 companies abroad for the manufacture of chipboard for furniture making.  Tilmanstone at any one time can roughly handle up to 600tonnes of wood waste. We organize outgoing deliveries so that we have as much coming in as we do going out.
